The story of Starsector concerns a dense region of space in the Perseus Arm left relatively unharmed by the calamity that destroyed the Domain. I see the logic behind your build - Other weapons build up hard flux in the enemy, and the tach lance messes them up - shield or no shield. Now, humanity is scattered in pockets throughout the galaxy, trying to recover from the great Collapse. I feel it's that people identify Tach Lance as the most powerful (which it is), and invest in it fully without realizing the downsides. Entire worlds cut off from the Gate network starve, burn, and tear themselves apart. The comforts of the high age of civilization are but a memory.
